The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of nursing practical education using standardized patients (SPs) in Korea. A report was prepared following the guidelines presented by PRISMA group. The keywords used for the search were ‘standardized patient and nursing’, or ‘simulated patient and nursing’. Nineteen controlled trials reported in South Korea from 2001 to 2016 were included in the final analysis. The ‘metafor’ of R-package was used for the analysis. This study has found that nursing practical education using SPs is effective in improving clinical competence, communication skills, problem-solving ability, satisfaction for education and, self-efficacy. The standardized effect sizes of the measured variables were all above the middle level. Simulation-based education is essential for nursing students and nurses to have more flexible nursing skills. This study identified the significant effect of nursing practical education using SPs, which is one of simulation-based educations. These results can be used as an evidence-based data to optimize the effectiveness of nursing practical education.
