Abstract
Sports science is an interdisciplinary area that various methodologies are applied to study. In spite of that, most of the studies make conclusions based on quantitative data collected through mere physical activities. To overcome limitations from that, recent studies are conducted empirically using many different analysis methods. Regression analysis is one of them. A few assumptions are prerequisite to use the regression analysis, unless, it may cause errors in predicting dependent variable or making interpretation. In this context, the current research compared data of men’s game in KOVO V-league which is one of the two major mountains in domestic winter pro-sports game, with prior literatures and confirmed problems caused by incorrect regression analysis. Decomposition of a determination coefficient to deduct a relative importance was suggested as an alternative. Moreover, the relative importance was demonstrated to be a more valid variable to analyze data. This research makes contribution in helping researchers in sports science to make more proper and meaningful conclusions from the data.
