Abstract
To manage flood control at the dam, it is essential to understand the relationship between discharge, water level, and precipitation. Located in the middle reaches of the Han River, the Paldang Dam regulates the flow of water entering Seoul from the Han River. This study analyzed the correlation among precipitation, discharge, and the water level of the Hangju Bridge at the Paldang Dam using copula models. Precipitation and discharge were logarithmically transformed, and a time lag was considered using cumulative data for 1-3 days. The copula model parameters were estimated using pseudo-likelihood, and the goodness of fit was evaluated using the Cramer-von Mises test and xv-CIC. The results showed that the Frank copula was the most suitable for the Paldang Dam, while the Joe copula was the most suitable for the Hangju Bridge. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to optimizing dam operations for flood mitigation and predicting river water levels. However, for a more accurate analysis, further research comprehensively considering various factors will be necessary.
